This is my steer Maverick. Maverick is out of my Grand Champion breeding heifer I showed a few years ago. I have grown up around cattle all my life, but it was truly special to raise my own heifer, breed her, and then show her calf. It was an amazing experience to watch him go from a calf in the field that was half crazy, to being a calf I can lead around and show. I still have that cow and she had a heifer calf this year. I hope to be able to show that calf at the fair next year.
This is my eighth year showing steers in 4-H. Over these years, I have learned the importance of feed when raising animals. I worked with a local feed elevator to come up with a custom ration that balances proteins, vitamins, and minerals. This feed not only helps my animals look their best at show, but it also helps them taste the best afterwords.
This year I was President of my 4-H club as well as the Greenhand President in my FFA chapter. I also compete on the meat judging teams both in 4-H and FFA.
