Hi, I'm Lyla Seymour from El Campo, TX and this is my heifer Candy. On March 10th, late that night my family and I headed into Houston with my heifer in tow. I was so excited. I had been working so hard all year long with Candy. We got to the staging area around 10:30 and as we pulled up I saw all the trucks and trailers with the same hope I had. I tried to sleep but with all the excitement it was a short night. We moved in the next morning. Yes, we made it into the barn and got Candy bedded down and fed before the barn even started to buzz of the possible shut down. By lunch time though my mom and dad were getting calls and the talk was all around me. It is something I will never forget. The hope I had of walking Candy onto those green shaving this year was fadding quickly and there was nothing I could do. As sad as I was for myself, I soon realized the loss of the senior group of exhibitors and the exhibitors with market animals. It was all around me, the sad disappointed faces. People truly did not know what to say.
I went in with a hope, a hope that it would be my year. I had worked hard, hauled a lot this year to prepare for it, and grown as a showman. I had a better heifer and she had competed well all year long at the jackpots, so maybe just maybe we would have a chance. Now, I will never know Candy's placing at the HLSR as a heifer calf.
My plan now is to move on. I have a plan of breeding and raising some show calves with her. All of the money that I earn from my projects goes into continuing what I fell in love with which is showing and raising cattle and my college fund. If you can help me in anyway it will be greatly appreciated.
