Hi! I am Wesley Willert and I have been in the Beef project area for four years now. This is my Roan market steer that was born April 2020 and is from our own herd of cows. He is a crossbred steer and is a cross between Red Angus, Simmental, and Short Horn. He doesn't have a very high percentage of Shorthorn in him, yet his hair coat came up roan, thus his name of Roany.
I enjoy having market steers and watching them grow. I am learning about different rations and when to advance the energy levels for different growth levels. I know that I have to be regular with my feeding time so that the animals don't run out of feed and then over eat when feed is available again. This is teaching me responsibility and accountability. The things I am learning while working with my steers are helping me with skills I will need in the future as I hope to run my own ranch someday! I am started on that path already with having two cows in our family's herd.
I will be attending Cody-Kilgore school this fall as a 7th grader.
