Hello! My name is Holly Buchanan. I am 18 years old and I graduated from Falcon High School in May. This is my fourth year as a member of the Falcon FFA Chapter and my third year holding the office of Sentinel. I earned my FFA State Degree this June and represented Falcon in the District Livestock Evaluation CDE (Career Development Event) in March. Outside of FFA I enjoy running track for FHS, swimming for Special Olympics, AWANA, and being the historian for the Golden Prairie 4-H Club.
This is my fourth year showing market ducks. I purchased my ducks from Meyer Hatchery and received them in the mail on April 10th. I named one of my duckling Chris Quack after my favorite actor. Since his arrival I've handled him daily and weighed him weekly to insure that he will be ready to show at the county fair. Raising ducks has taught me the importance of keeping detailed records, maintaining bio-security within my flock (to prevent HPAI), and how to be responsible for something other than myself.
Being involved in FFA has awarded me many opportunities to travel around Colorado and twice to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. It has given me a platform to share my passion for poultry and to be an advocate for people with special needs within the agriculture community. in the future I hope to put these skills to use as a veterinary technician.
I will be showing my market ducks at the El Paso County Fair on Sunday July 14th at 8am in the Poultry Barn. I will then be auctioning my duck at the Junior Livestock Sale on Saturday July 20th at 1pm in the Owen's Arena. I would also like to invite you to attend the Buyer's BBQ at 10:30am in Swink Hall on July 20th. I look forward to meeting you in-person and I greatly appreciate you rconsideration in offering a bid for my duck.
