I have been raising market geese for five years now. Waterfowl are my favorite livestock animal to raise. People don't realize how much work they are. Geese are very beautiful and actually very affectionate. The Ganders (males) can get aggressive but usually it is all talk. They are very chatty animals. Waterfowl can be very messy. I train my geese to walk out of the coop in the morning to their outside enclosure. This is where they have water and can make messes. At the end of the day they walk back to their enclosure in the coop. This keeps everyone cleaner and healthier. Geese have very powerful wings so you have to be careful when handling them. Any proceeds I receive I will use towards their enclosures since they are getting weathered and need some repairs. I am also hoping I can help my sisters that didn't get to bring their lambs in to show or sell because of miscommunication by the 4-H staff. I feel so bad for them and want to help them recoup some of their lost expenses. I dream of one day breeding my own geese. I will need a separate enclosure for that.
