My name is Abigail Arce, and I am a 10th-grade student in the Agriscience Magnet Program at James Madison High School. Currently, I am raising two pigs—a barrow and a gilt—as part of my animal projects. Since August, I have been dedicated to their care every morning and evening, regardless of my other school commitments. My responsibilities include feeding, cleaning pens, barn chores, daily walks, bathing, and maintaining their skin and overall health. Balancing school and my agricultural commitments can be challenging, but perseverance keeps me going. I monitor my pigs' growth weekly to adjust their feed and supplements, ensuring they receive the best care possible. These projects have taught me invaluable skills such as work ethic, responsibility, time management, budgeting, and the importance of learning from mistakes.
Looking ahead, my goal is to continue raising pigs next year and take on the challenge of raising a steer. While I know this will require even greater dedication, I am excited and ready for the opportunity to grow.
I would greatly appreciate any donation, big or small, to help cover the significant costs of feeding and caring for these animals!
Thank you so much for your consideration!
