My 4-H Turkey Project: Raising Healthy Birds

Hi, I'm Axel Harris, and this is my first year doing the 4-H Market Turkey Project! I am showing
Broad Breasted Turkeys known for their reliability as a meat production breed.

I chose turkeys for my project because it's a family tradition as my sister has raised market
turkeys for several years. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience.

Each day, I'm responsible for providing fresh feed and water and maintaining a clean
and healthy living environment. I also track their weight gain and feed consumption. My
favorite part of this project has been watching them grow so quickly and seeing their
unique personalities develop.

Through this project, I'm gaining hands-on experience in animal husbandry, poultry
nutrition, and the importance of biosecurity. I'm also learning valuable skills in record-
keeping and problem-solving. My goal is to raise a healthy, high-quality turkey,
understanding the entire process from start to finish.

I'm looking forward to showcasing my turkeys and sharing more about my project at the
Elbert County Fair!
