Hello! My name is Cecily Paas; this is my second year in 4-H, and my first year in the market goat project. Meet my Market Goat, Butterscotch, a Boer Wether. I obtained Butterscotch from a breeder in Fort Collins, CO in March of this year when he weighed 35 lbs. Whenever I walk into the barn, the goats are always curious to see if it is feeding time. Butterscotch has a healthy appetite, and over the course of the past 14 weeks has gained an average of 2.85 pounds/week, for a total weight gain of 40 pounds. Butterscotch was slow to warm up to me at first, but after many hours of sitting with him and training him, he has warmed up to me and now comes to greet me as I enter the barn. Butterscotch was fairly obstinate and did not want to wear his halter for quite some time; however, I continued my training with him, and at times, used a forceful hand to train him. Butterscotch learned his place beside me, and is now very well behaved. Since the day I brought him home, Butterscotch and I have had a very special bond. He is calm, quiet and fluffy!
