My name is Sam Martell. I'm sixteen, and this is my eighth year doing swine for 4-H. I really enjoy raising pigs because of the personalities they have that makes each year different. This year I bought two pigs: a Hamp cross named Douglass, and a Cross named Dottie. I've really enjoyed raising and training them both and I'm excited to show them. Douglass is definitely the more mellow pig, and he always loves a belly rub or a dip in our kiddie pool. Dottie is more aggressive to say the least, but she looks and walks really well and I'm hoping to win a ribbon with her in showmanship. Douglass got sick around March and lost a lot of weight, so I'm glad he's the pig I won't be selling. Dottie is the bigger pig by far, and I can assure you that over 6 months of daily belly rubs and marshmallows will make her a quality product.
