Hi, my name is Ellie Collinson and I’m 10 years old!
This year I’m super excited to be auctioning my market lamb, Copper. Copper is a Katahdin hair lamb, which means he doesn’t grow wool like most sheep. Instead, he sheds like a dog—so no shearing needed! Hair lambs are often used in big meat operations, but don’t worry, both wool lambs and hair lambs taste yummy.
Copper was born in January and was a bottle baby, which means I had to feed him bottles multiple times a day. Because of that, he LOVES people—especially me, because he thinks I’m his mom. He still gets so excited whenever he sees me coming.
When Copper was little, he had a perfect copper-colored spot on his head that looked just like a penny, so that’s how he got his name. Even though the spot has faded, the name stuck.
Copper also has a silly talent—he loves to jump horse jumps! I’m an equestrian, so I have lots of jumps, and Copper thinks he’s part of my jumping team. Sometimes he runs right alongside me, and other times he jumps on his own just for fun. It’s great exercise for him, and it helps make sure he grows strong, healthy, and balanced for the market.
I’d also like to thank the rescue organization that adopted my project lamb last year as a companion for someone who had lost their own sheep. That made me really happy, and I’m so grateful for their support.
So if you want a lamb that’s as lovable and goofy as he is healthy, bid on Copper! He’s one of a kind, and he’ll make me proud wherever he goes.
