Hi! My name is JessAnn Montoya and I’m a sophomore at Lee High School, currently serving as our FFA sentinel. I knew from a very young age that I was meant to be around animals. My dad is a professional quarter horse jockey and was racing most of my childhood, so I was able to be around animals all of the time. I decided to begin showing this year and I went out to my breeder and picked out the two sweetest wethers I could find. So sweet I forgot I bought them as my market animals and not as pets. I began working with them having no clue what to do or if what I was doing was right at all. I’ve always had everlasting support from my parents so I knew I would be just fine. Soon, I showed for the first time and won grand champion, such a surreal feeling. I then placed 9th at the Sandhills stock show and rodeo, again a very big accomplishment for myself and my goat Oliver. Now I plan on showing at Fort Worth stock show and rodeo in a couple of weeks, then San Angelo. Showing has definitely changed my perspective on life, allowing me to be apart of something bigger than myself. I will continue to show throughout my last two years of high school as well. After high school, I plan on attending Tarleton State University and major in Agribusiness. I am forever grateful for this industry and the sense of purpose I was given.
