Hi! My name is JessAnn Montoya and I’m a sophomore at Lee High School. I knew from a very young age that I was meant to be around animals. My dad is a professional quarter horse jockey and was racing most of my childhood, so I was able to be around animals all of the time. My freshman year I was put into an ag class due to my love for animals and I was asked the big question : Would you be interested in joining FFA? Of course I said yes, and participated in career development events and leadership development events. Though my sophomore year I knew I was going to start showing. I went out to my breeder and picked out the two sweetest wethers I could find. So sweet I forgot I bought them as my market animals and not as pets. I began working with them having no clue what to do or if what I was doing was right at all. I’ve always had everlasting support from my parents so I knew I would be just fine. Soon, I showed for the first time and won 4th place which was not bad at all for me and my goat Martini’s first time in the ring. Now I plan on showing one last time with Martini at San Angelo stockshow and rodeo.I will continue to show throughout my last two years of high school as well. After high school, I plan on attending Tarleton State University and major in Agribusiness. I am forever grateful for this industry and the sense of purpose I was given.
