You are currently in the LIVESTOCK AUCTION (Beef, Breeding Beef Heifers, Lambs, Goats, Ag Mechanics, Rabbits, Turkeys, Poultry ). The Swine Auction is happening at the same time. You will need to click "AUCTIONS" at top of screen and select the San Joaquin "MARKET SWINE AUCTION". You may open it in a separate window and toggle between the two auctions if you desire (You'll probably want to mute one of them)
Hi! My name is Vivian Borba, I just finished my first year at California State University, Fresno. I am currently in my 10th and final year of showing and will be showing with Escalon FFA. I am majoring in Ag Education and hope to be an Ag Teacher
Through most of my years in 4-H, I have shown Dairy Cattle-Breed but 4 years ago I decided to challenge myself and raise a Market Steer for AgFest. I enjoyed my project so much that I found myself raising another Market Steer for this year's San Joaquin County AgFest. I am looking for people who might be interested in buying or supporting my market steer project at this year’s San Joaquin County AgFest.
I have owned my steer, Brick since November of 2021. He is a Charolais-cross that I bought from Jeff Wagner who is located in Linden, CA. At that time he weighed around 800 lbs. His diet has consisted of Oat Hay grown on our ranch and Al Gilbert steer grower then finisher with rolled corn from Escalon Feed and Supply twice a day. As time went by his feed increased in pounds. By May of this year, he weighed 1250 lbs. Brick ended up finishing out at 1,328 pounds!!
This past week has been one of my hardest fair weeks, not only have I been dreading the day of aging out (since I was 9) but Brick gave me a run for my money. On market show day, Brick decided he wanted to play with the other steers in the ring, after being pulled left and right and even doing a roll in the ring I wanted to give up. However, the next day I got back out there and proved my level of showmanship to the judge. He acknowledged my courage for coming back out even after having a difficult market show. Because of Brick’s “fun-loving” behavior I was placed last in my class. I wanted to let you know I will be lot 562 in the sale this Saturday June 18th.
Thank you for your consideration.
Vivian Borba, Escalon FFA
