My name is Alexis Jennings. Although this is my fourth year in 4H, this is my second year doing a market steer project. Last year, I chose a pair of practical steers as it was my first year in the beef project. This year, I searched for steers with a more competitive club calf influence. My goal was to improve my Showmanship/handler skills. It’s been a year worth a lot of work and money, as livestock does tend to “eat” it up. However, the effort you put into your project pays you back in the end in more ways then just a paycheck. I learned this as I found myself rising as a worthy competitor and found the most value in the satisfaction of a job well done. My project will always be more valuable than any money could provide, and this is a project I'm proud of. The experience alone is enough to keep me going. I have worked hard and I plan to continue producing and competing as hard in the coming years of my 4-H experience.

This year I have branched out into Livestock Judging and work part time at a local processor to expand my knowledge of the meat industry. I’ve spent many hours in study over what you, the consumer, are looking for in a beef product. Raising livestock will always be a chore but it is my passion project. While I raised two calves this year I will be offering my purebred Hereford for sale to the public at our livestock auction. Come find me and my gentle giant at the North Idaho State Fair. I would love to share with you more about 4-H and the developmental opportunities it has offered me.

Thank you for reviewing my profile. For those interested in my calf, I have a custom processor lined up with Double E. I hope to see you there!
