Jacek Jureczki Hamshire-Fannett FFA
Howdy! My name is Jacek Jureczki.
I am a 15-year-old freshman at Hamshire-Fannett High School and an active member of both Hamshire-Fannett FFA and Hamshire-Fannett 4-H. I currently serve as the Hamshire-Fannett 4-H Vice President, Jefferson County 4-H Secretary, and FFA Sentinel. Through these organizations, I enjoy developing leadership skills, learning about agriculture, and giving back to my community.
I was raised around agriculture and livestock, and showing animals has become one of my greatest passions. My family raises Beefmaster cattle, and I typically show breeding beef, but I have also developed a passion for raising poultry for the South Texas State Fair. Last year I had the honor of earning Reserve Champion Roaster, which made the long hours and hard work incredibly rewarding.
Raising roasters may only last a few weeks, but it requires constant dedication and attention. From the moment the chicks arrive, they must be monitored closely to ensure they always have fresh food, clean water, and the proper temperature to grow and stay healthy. Many nights meant waking up throughout the night to check on them and keep them active so they would grow properly. Watching tiny chicks grow into large, healthy birds in such a short amount of time has been both challenging and exciting.
These birds may only be around for a few weeks, but they definitely keep me busy every hour of those weeks.
Between cattle chores and chicken chores, I’ve learned that sleep is optional when you’re raising livestock.
Through projects like this, I have learned responsibility, patience, and the value of hard work. The leadership opportunities I have in 4-H and FFA have helped me grow not only as an exhibitor, but also as a young leader in agriculture. These experiences continue to shape my future and strengthen my commitment to the livestock industry.
This year, I am honored to have earned Grand Champion Roaster at the South Texas State Fair!
Any money earned from this project will go toward future livestock projects and my college savings. My goal is to attend Texas A&M University and pursue a degree in Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management so I can continue working in agriculture and natural resource conservation.
Thank you for supporting the youth exhibitors of the South Texas State Fair and investing in the next generation of hardworking agricultural leaders. Your support helps exhibitors like me continue learning, growing, and pursuing our goals in agriculture.
God bless,
Jacek Jureczki
