The Routt County 4-H Scholarship Foundation is a locally funded and operated non-profit organization that began in 1994 and started with a $500 donation. We offer over 11 scholarship types for high school and continuing education students who have been active in 4-H.  Since our inception, the Routt County 4-H Scholarship Foundation has awarded 342 students over $480,000 in scholarships. We continue to raise funds and take donations to build on our endowment with a goal of someday reaching $1 million.

Thank you to Emily Rossi of the Flat Tops 4-H Club for raising this year's 4-H Scholarship Foundation animal. We would also like to thank Steamboat Resorts for purchasing the 2019 Scholarship pig.

2020 Routt County Fair Jr. Livestock Sale

TERMS OF SALE

ROUTT COUNTY JR. LIVESTOCK SALE/ROUTT COUNTY FAIR

TERMINAL AUCTION: The Routt County Jr. Livestock Sale is a “Terminal” auction, which means the highest bidder will be granted the contents of the lot at the conclusion of the auction and full payment. A terminal lot should be understood by the bidder that they are buying the contents of the lot and it will be slaughtered and processed by Mountain Meat Packing (see below).

LIVESTOCK ARE SOLD BY THE HEAD: If you are the successful bidder, you have several options to consider, all of which need to be chosen before leaving the sale site. These options include:

  • Animal Processing: All sale animals will be slaughtered under USDA inspection and processed by Mountain Meat Packing. Buyers will contact Mountain Meat Packing at (970) 824-4878 with cutting orders by Close of Business Tuesday, August 18th. Buyer understands and agrees to pay Mountain Meat Packing for animal processing for any animal they successfully purchase. Animal processing fees are generally as follows for a standard cut:
    • Beef- $55 Slaughter & Disposal Fee, plus $.95/Pound Processing
    • Swine- $45 Slaughter & Disposal Fee, plus $.95/Pound Processing and $1.25/Pound Curing
    • Lamb and goat- $90 Slaughter & Disposal & Process Fee
  • Buy-Back of the animal. The buy-back is offered as a convenience for buyers who want to support 4-H and FFA members but do not want to keep the meat for personal consumption. It significantly reduces the purchase price. Fair management contracts with a third-party who will purchase animals at market price. The buy-back price is published in the Sale Order for each animal. You will only have to pay the amount for the purchased animal above the market price listed for that animal. For example, if you pay $800 for a lamb and the buy-back price is $85, then you pay $715.
  • Donate the meat to a local charity. Businesses and individuals purchase animals and donate the meat, or the buy-back value of the animal to non-profit organizations. If you choose to donate an animal, you will also pay for the processing of the animal per the cost schedule listed above in ‘Animal Processing.’ The processor will work with your charity of choice on delivery of the animal. Past organizations that have received donations include: Routt County Council on Aging, Horizons, The Haven, Routt County 4-H Livestock Judging Team, Lift-Up Food Bank, Routt County 4-H Council, Advocates of Routt County, Routt County 4-H Scholarship Fund, Casey’s Pond, Sk8 Church, SOROCO FFA, or any other non-profit organization of your choice.
