Howdy! My name is Steil Thompson. I am 8 years old and this is my fourth year doing  4H including 4H cloverbuds. This year I did Market steer and beekeeping.  Im excited to say my steer won 2nd Place Market for mid weight steer!  My steer is a Black Angus, Hereford, Maine and Simmental cross. Luke Skywalker is his name.  He has a big top which means he will provide Choice restaurant grade Ribeyes for my buyer.  He was born at a local ranch in Silt that was known for excellent stock.  Luke was fed grass hay for roughage and a High quality grain mixture.  He is a freindly steer.  I had a very good relationship with Luke.  One 4Her's mom even called me the "steer whipserer" because of how good a' freinds we were.  I would go out twice every day to bring him water, feed him, brush him and walk him regularly.  I think I have more muscle too carrying water buckets out to him every day, often through snow before our water hose thawed in the spring.  I've been helping my Pop with raising steer for our family since I was a little kid.  Ive seen some pretty nice ones, but this is the best one yet!  Although in the beginning I had to deal with bloat a few times, sometimes late at night, he has turned out to be a son-of-a-gun steer. I worked hard with Luke but I really did learn a lot. I thank the good Lord that Luke has grown to be a big, healthy, muscular (with a bit of tasty fat) steer that I am really proud of.  I'm confident he will make a whole bunch of good, juicy meals for my buyer.  His brisket, rib meat and tenderloins look and feel great.

I really love 4H because I like to see my steer grow and strech because I am taking good care of him.  I believe 4H helps prepare me to be a better adult.  It was really cool picking Luke out, trimming his horns, learning to trim hooves, treating him for bloat twice by sticking a hose down his throat to pour medicine and let the gasses out. Ive learned so much about bee keeping too.  4H has impacted my life because it shows me how to be a rancher when I grow up.  How to keep an animal healthy, and make an animal know you and that your a safe person. I also learned about different meat cuts.  There is so much to learn because 4H and the leaders and big kids teach you a lot.  I want to be a helper to the young kids too.

When I get the money for my steer, first I give 10% to God by giving it to chaplains that work for the military.  That is what I want to be when I grow up.  Then I will do a lot of math to figure out if I made a profit.  Next I need to buy a show halter for next year and put money aside for next years project. Lastly, I will get 100$ to spend and the rest goes to college.  Praise God for making steer, horses, bees, and all 4H animals.  I want to give a big thanks to our 4H leaders: to Jenny, Mary, Luke, Miss Kim, Miss Brooke and Shane.  And thank you buyers for supporting all us 4H kids.   God bless you and your family.
