Eaton FFA Chapter - CO

Eaton FFA Chapter - CO

The Eaton Vocational Agriculture Department was established in the Fall of 1924.  Mr. Irvin Hinds was the first instructor.  In 1932, Eaton received the National Chapter Charter with Ed. A. Collette as instructor.  Eaton was the 45th high school in Colorado to charter a Future Farmers of America Program. More new members were admitted in 1965 with the consolidation of the New Farmers of America, the organization for African American agriculture students.  In 1969 girls were allowed to join.  Eaton’s Vocational Agriculture Education Department was first located in the basement of the old gym, which is now a student parking lot.  In 1974,  the William Paul Grey Agriculture Building was built, the same building is used today.  During the 1988 National Convention, state association delegates voted to change “Future Farmers of America” to the “National FFA Organization”.  This also change the name Vocational Agriculture Education to Agriculture Education.  FFA is part of the Agriculture Education Program which provides students the ability to develop premier leadership, personal growth and career success.
